ABSTRACT: †¢ Events are diverse in nature and can range from concerts, festivals, conferences, product launches, sporting spectacles, corporate hospitality and incentive programmes. They promote interchange of knowledge and lead to growth in trade development, tourism and creative enterprise. The events industry worldwide and in the UK is growing at a rapid pace. It is extremely important for event organizers to acknowledge and recognize the impact of the events industry on the UK economy. According to the industry reports from recent years, it has been observed that music events form a significant part of the UK events industry. Research suggests that 41% tourists claim that their visits to the UK have been related to music. This report†¦show more content†¦Before analysing the music events industry in the UK, it would be advantageous to define what an event is, so that we have a clear understand of its nature and characteristics. Getz (2005, p16) provides two definitions of events, one from the customer’s point of view and the other from the organizers point of view: â€Å"To the customer or guest, a special event is an opportunity for leisure, social or cultural experience outside the normal range of choices or beyond everyday experience† And â€Å"A special event is a one time or infrequently occurring event outside normal programmes or activities of the sponsoring or organizing body†. According to him, certain attributes such as uniqueness, quality, festive spirit, theme, tradition, hospitality, authenticity and symbolism create a sense of ‘specialness’. Events are organized to create special moments for people taking part in them. People involved in events are in a different environment as compared to their ordinary life, not only physically but also emotionally. Getz (2007.p19) states, â€Å"Expectations, moods and attitudes of guests and participant will always be new, so their experience will differ regardless of the programme and setting†. He also suggests that events have a long term effect on people who participate in them. A cultural event of a country or city will have more significance
